What the university is trying to become, and how it intends to get there.
To be the university the Cauvery delta turns to first — for the doctor who stays, the engineer who builds, the teacher who teaches, and the graduate who remembers to give something back.
Annamalai exists to teach well, to research what the region needs, and to serve the public that pays for it. Those three duties are not ranked; a university that researches brilliantly and teaches badly has failed at least half of its purpose.
The mission is carried out through five commitments:
▪
Teach in small groups, with assessment that measures understanding rather than recall.
▪
Keep professional programmes — engineering, medicine, law, teaching, pharmacy, nursing — anchored in supervised practice.
▪
Direct research towards the problems of the Cauvery delta: water, soil, public health, rural livelihoods and renewable energy.
▪
Admit on merit and support on need, so that no admitted student leaves for want of money.
▪
Treat students as members of a scholarly community, not as customers of a service.
The mission statement was last revised by the Academic Council in March 2024 and is reviewed every five years.
01
Examinations are honest, appointments are on merit, and money is accounted for.
02
Questions are welcome in class, including the ones the syllabus did not anticipate.
03
Every programme carries a field or community component before the final year.
04
A campus where a first-generation student is not an outsider but the point of the exercise.
See how these commitments are written into the university's statutes and councils.
