Why Annamalai

Annamalai admits about 3,400 students a year across ten faculties. Most of them are the first in their family to go to university, and most live within 200 kilometres of Chidambaram. That is deliberate: this is a university built to serve the Cauvery delta, not to recruit from it.

Teaching happens in small groups. First-year tutorial sections are capped at fifteen students, and every teacher keeps office hours that are published on the faculty notice board. If you fall behind, somebody will notice and somebody will ask.

The university is candid about what it is not. It is not an institute of national standing, its research budget is modest, and its campus is old. What it offers instead is careful teaching, fees that a farming family can plan around, and a degree that employers in Tamil Nadu recognise.

Sixty-four programmes across engineering, science, management, pharmacy, law, education, nursing, agriculture, arts and commerce.

▪

Forty-two companies recruited on campus in 2025–26, including eight from outside Tamil Nadu.
