A message from the Vice-Chancellor

Annamalai is a university of ordinary people doing careful work. Most of our students are the first in their families to attend university. Most of our teachers came through government schools themselves. That shapes what we think education is for: not selection, but capability.

Three priorities occupy this office. The first is teaching quality — smaller tutorial groups in the first year, and a proper induction for every new teacher, because knowing a subject and being able to teach it are different skills. The second is the examination system, which must become faster, more transparent and less prone to error. The third is the campus itself: hostels that are safe, laboratories that work, and a library open in the evening.

None of this is dramatic. Universities are improved by a hundred unglamorous decisions rather than by one grand plan, and the decisions that matter most are usually about staffing and time-tabling.

I welcome correspondence from students, parents and alumni. Every letter that reaches this office is read, and most are answered within a fortnight.

Priorities for 2026–27

Priority 01

Teaching quality

Tutorial groups capped at fifteen in the first year, and a compulsory two-week teaching induction for new faculty.

Priority 02

Examinations

Results within twenty-one days of the last paper, and a single-window correction process for every script.

Priority 03

Campus and welfare

Two hostels refurbished, the library open until 9 pm, and a full-time counsellor in every faculty.

Universities are improved by a hundred unglamorous decisions rather than by one grand plan.

Questions about admissions, examinations or fees are usually answered faster by the relevant office.
