Academics

Ten faculties, one calendar, and the rules that govern how Annamalai teaches and assesses.

Teaching at Annamalai

Professional programmes — engineering, pharmacy, law, management, nursing, education and agriculture — run on semesters and the credit system. The arts, commerce and science faculties retain the annual pattern, which suits students preparing alongside their degree for State and national competitive examinations.

Every course is assessed continuously. Internal assessment carries 30 per cent of the final mark: two tests worth 10 per cent each, and 10 per cent for assignments, laboratory records or field reports. The end-semester examination carries the remaining 70 per cent. A student must attend 75 per cent of scheduled classes to sit the examination, and may seek condonation from the Dean only on medical grounds.

▪

First-year tutorial groups are capped at fifteen students in every faculty.

▪

Laboratory and studio hours are timetabled separately and are compulsory, even where the theory course is passed.

▪

Every professional programme includes a field, clinical or industry component before the final year.
